Colorize

Many iPhone and iPad applications let you apply special effects to an image. Some of these work pretty good, but one that is very popular is a process where all parts of the image are turned into B&W and one portion is left in color. In fact, our first Christmas card we received this year had that effect on one of the photos. This can easily be accomplished in Photoshop, but lately I've been using Gimp (freeware) to edit my images. I decided to use the layers in Gimp to see if I could replicate the same process. I found it was very easy and below is a photo that I played with to achieve the desired results.
