Comal River Bridge
Photo taken November 13, 2012, New Braunfels, TX, USA.
A friend of mine, BethAnne, posted a picture of this railroad bridge in New Braunfels a few weeks ago onto Facebook. It was such an interesting perspective I decided to seek out the bridge and experiment a bit with some of the Creative Style features of my Sony A-77. On the trip, my wife and I discovered the oldest bakery in Texas and a very interesting hotel that is said to have a ghost. We plan to stay there on our upcoming wedding aniversary (the hotel, not the bakery!).
After looking the bridge over, my first impression was to do an image in color, but it really didn't seem to do the bridge and weathered railroad ties any justice. The camera has an ability to introduce Sepia at the time of the image capture and I was very pleased with the result. I captured several images at EV ranges from -1.5 to +1.5 but like this one the best at EV=0.Equipment
Camera
Sony DSLR, A-77, hand held
Settings
ISO 100; Shutter 1/100; f/8.0; lens 50mm; EV:0; difuse natural lighting with overcast skys
Processing
None, sepia applied by camera
Why didn't I do any processing you might wonder. My initial idea was to remove the power lines and utility poles using PhotoShop or Gimp. But the more I studied the picture they seemed to add an element of time and technological growth to the image.
